In Mozambique, Nestlé works in partnership to provide local population with clean drinking water. |
Nestlé contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development goals, including through activities aiming at:
- Reducing child mortality
- Improving maternal health
- Combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
In many parts of the world, maternal and infant mortality are still major problems. Because Nestlé has a presence in almost every country of the world, we are able to help address this problem by working with partners in partnership with public health organisations and NGOs, helping fund activities like education around HIV/AIDS prevention or nutrition development.
For example, Nestlé collaborated with ENDA Tiers Monde, the International Association of Maternal and Neonatal Health, and NGOs, in setting up mother and child centres in Dakar, Senegal. Though its financial contribution, 20 centres for the improvement of nutrition and hygiene for mother and children under five years were established.
The Colombia Institute of Family Welfare and local government of Antioquia State offer nutritionally-fortified breakfasts crackers, developed and manufactured at cost by Nestlé Colombia, to 641 000 children in 600 municipalities in two major areas of Medellin and Bogota.
Nestlé is also a Funding Corporate Sponsor of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' Africa Health Initiative 2010. Our contribution focuses initially on an educational project of young people in Nigeria seeking to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS. Nestlé collaborated with the Nigerian Red Cross to produce three educational booklets: “HIV/AIDS Questions & Answers”, “Nutrition and HIV/AIDS: Basic Facts” and “Children and HIV/AIDS”.
